The Missing Link

Imagen
She was a monkey, she used to climb trees and eat bananas. She didn't have a name because monkeys doesn't give names to each other, but for the sake of the story we will call it Eve.  Eve used to live in the forest with his family of twenty. Their routine was pretty basic: eat, fuck each other and sleep... repeat. In their conscience there didn't exist any doubt about death or god, any complain about life, any other concern that those three things; they were happy.  It was Friday or Monday (for them it doesn't really matter) when The Big Tree burned up. The Big Tree was Eve's favorite place, so when she saw the flames and heard the screams of their family she immediately started to cry and run away because she was surrounded by fire. She ran a lot, until she couldn't hear the screaming anymore. She was alone, nearby the burned forest. The only place that she ever knew, the place that killed all of her family members.  After three days the rain putte...

The (real) king of the jungle

Imagen
Why is the lion considered the king of the jungle? Is it because of his strength? Is it because of his big jaw or his powerful grip? or is it because he can maul little animals? Well, If those are the reasons that make the Lion the king of the jungle, I present to you an animal that has all of those qualities and you can pet without getting your hand ripped off: The elephant, the real king of the jungle. The elephant it's the biggest and stronger animal in the whole jungle and pretty much the whole world if you don't count water (you should never speak with certainty about the life under water). The elephant is the evolution of the mammoth, so his size has been is very diminished over the years (I'll let you an image that can illustrate the difference between the two). You can found them primarily in Africa and also Asia.  I love elephants because they can be pretty intimidating but also very cute. If you upset an elephant you better run for your life, they...

It feels like summer

Imagen
This summer I'm going to do pretty much the same exact things that I do every summer, so, now I'm going to write about that things. January I have one big event every January, the greatest rock festival ever made in Chile: Rock In Rio... Itata. Yeah, almost the same but we added Itata (because the name of the river where the festival take place).  This festival is full of great bands from all over the place (Chile-wise) including mine. So I'm going to spend most of January rehearsing for this great gig, and by the end of the month I will perform in front of 10.000 people. Pretty good right? Rock In Rio Itata (2017) February February is dedicated to the family. I live far away from them, so I like to spend time with them during the last month before college. This year we have too many plans tho. I'd like to stay in home, go out a few times but my mom thinks that we are too lazy, so this summer we have to compensate it. Perú,  Arica and the south of Chile are o...

A skill that I admire

Imagen
Some people has awesome flexibility to the point that they can contort themselves. I think that this is one of the most beautiful and extraordinary things that a human being can do. It envolves your own body, so you don’t need equipment or expensive things, but don’t sleep on it, it’s a mind test because your body is going to burn in pain. I admire this skill because I’m a brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practicioner. This form of martials arts rely on submissions, grabbing your oponnent and choke him or break his arm. So, flexibility is key when it comes to BJJ (Brazilian jiu-jitsu). A person who can contort himself not only can look cool in pictures, also can produce some extraordinary submissions like ‘Gogoplata’ or ‘Rubber guard’ (I’m going to left pictures below).                                         (Rubber Guard)                ...

My dream job

Imagen
In highschool I was part of a chamber orchestra, which is just a smaller orchestra. I played contrabass, a very big instrument very similar to a bass guitar. I felt in love with the instrument and the music that we played. Classic songs like ‘Sarabande’ or ‘Betthoven’s Fifth Symphony” and also chilean songs like Victor Jara’s “Te recuerdo amanda”. Since that day, my dream job has been play contrabass for a big and famous orchestra. It’s not for the money, or the glory, or non of that things. The things that you can feel playing with so many people are unreal. Also, if you are a fan of music, an orchestra is the perfection in terms of sound, emotions and talent.  Sadly, since I left highschool I don’t have the instrument anymore. I miss it a lot, but I also know that I’m too old to pursuing this dream, so I moved on.

Friends

Imagen
"Friend" is a very natural expression but in essence, is someone that you can trust, someone that can hangout with you without getting awkward, someone that you can call and speak for hours, etc. In my experience, I've been friend with only a few people. I had a lot of fun with a bunch of people during my childhood and highschool but my very best friend was (and still is) my cousin.  Javier is the first child of my favorite aunt (also my godmother). We borned in the same year so since we were little we hangout a lot, we had a lot of common because of this. Since the age of three we played soccer together, believe it or not we had a very special connection even in the soccer field.  All the thing that a children does, we did it together. We grew up together, going to parties, taking works together, we also lived together not so long ago. The soccer was left behind and we replace it with weed, music and discussions about politics. Our relationship is so especial t...

My favorite concert experience

Imagen
The first concert of my life and the last one are from the same band, Chancho en Piedra. This concerts were the best two shows that I’ve ever seen in my life. Chancho en Piedra is a funk/rock chilean band. They’ve been around since 1994, one year before I became alive. As they were growing up, I was growing up too, so I feel connected with them since the beggining.  When I was 8 they went to my town to play a little show. That little show was my first concert and I didn’t even know them. First row, eyes locked in the bassist fingers, I couldn’t believe how fast they were. That day I decided to become a bass player, something that even today has meaning to me.                    Two years ago, in another concert. A little sweaty after the show. Fifteen years later, last week, Chancho en Piedra were celebrating 20 years of one of their finnest records. First row again, eyes locked in the bassist again. I f...
